Read the full reviewA weighted blanket spreads gentle, even pressure across your body — like a firm hug — and many people use it to unwind before sleep. But everything hinges on the weight: too light and it does nothing; too heavy and it feels oppressive. Here you get the calculator, the comparison and the guides to get it right first time.

Tip: weighted blankets work best solo. Couples do better with two individual blankets than one big shared one.
An indicative tool, not medical advice. If you have sleep apnea, breathing, circulation or mobility problems, ask your doctor before using a weighted blanket.
It is a blanket filled with glass micro-beads (sometimes plastic pellets or heavy knitted yarn) sewn into pockets so the weight stays evenly spread. It weighs 3–13 kg (7–30 lb) versus the 1–2 kg of a normal duvet, and it is designed for one person: the weight should sit on your body, not dangle off the sides of the bed.
The idea behind it is "deep touch pressure" — the same principle as a hug, and the same one behind the compression blankets occupational therapists have used for decades. Many sleepers say it helps them relax and fall asleep; the scientific evidence is still small-scale and promising in equal measure, so we treat it as a sleep aid to choose and try sensibly, not as a medical product.
Even pressure feels like being tucked in firmly — the number-one reason buyers give in reviews.
Using it at the same time every night turns the blanket into a "time to sleep" signal for your body.
The weight makes unconscious position changes harder; restless sleepers tend to notice this first.
No batteries, apps or subscriptions: it works on night one thousand exactly as on night one.

Only over-3s, never babies, always supervised, at roughly 10% of the child's body weight. The child must be able to remove the blanket alone at all times. Details are in our kids' guide.
Cotton or bamboo models with glass beads breathe reasonably well; flannel and sherpa are winter blankets. If you sleep hot, skip thick microfiber and pick a "cooling" model.
